What it is for

The two things that decide whether an existing shelf still works are the pin diameter and the pin spacing. Cabinet shelf holes are drilled to 5 mm almost everywhere, but the spacing between the front and rear rows differs by manufacturer, which is why shelf pins are sold in sets with both straight and lipped pins.

Lipped brackets do a different job: they hold the shelf itself rather than supporting it from below, which is what you need when the shelf keeps sliding forward or when the side panel is too thin to take a pin. Both are listed by diameter and by piece count.
