Tread depth is the one tyre measurement a workshop takes on every visit, and it is the one that decides whether the car leaves the ramp or stops there. The legal minimum is 1.6 mm across the central three-quarters of the tread, but a tyre at 3 mm already loses grip in standing water — so the reading matters long before it reaches the limit.
Measure in the grooves rather than on the blocks, and take it at three points across the tread. Wear on the inner shoulder is the pattern that says the alignment is out, and it is invisible from the outside of the wheel. A gauge that lives in the tool tray is the one that actually gets used.
Digital gauge reading 0–25 mm in 1 mm steps, stainless steel body, chrome plated, with a pocket clip. The analogue version holds the reading on a friction slide after removal; the digital version has a hold button and a zero-set.
Orders are consolidated and re-weighed at intake, and freight is re-calculated on the actual chargeable weight. If you are ordering several items for one address, ask us for a combined quote before paying — mixing light and bulky items usually brings the freight share down.
