What it is for

Microfibre is sold by weight as much as by count, and the grammage is the number that predicts how a cloth behaves: a 300 gsm cloth lifts dust but holds little water, while a 600 gsm cloth holds far more and is the one for wiping a car dry without streaks. A 30-pack of the lighter cloth is right for bulk cleaning; it is the wrong cloth for drying.

All of these are microfibre with a lockstitched edge, so the backing does not fray in the wash, and they are machine-washable without softener. The glass cloths are woven finer and lint-free for panes and screens; the drying towel is one large cloth rather than several small ones, because one big cloth that does not touch the ground beats three small ones.

30 microfibre cloths at 380 gsm, 30 × 30 cm, with a lockstitched edge and an 80/20 polyester-polyamide blend. Machine-washable at 60 °C without fabric softener; the fine-weave and plush variants use the same blend at different pile heights.
